about us
"Entrepreneurial by nature, I combine creative thinking with practical solutions in my consultancy work. I am passionate about technology and can run with extremely creative and innovative ideas but can also be relied upon to deliver practical solutions that really work. As a human factors specialist I am particularly strong in bridging the gap between people, process and technology."

"In addition to running e-konsult I am also Lead Consultant with Sponge (an e-learning developer) and a founder member of the European Knowledge Group - a knowledge management consulting group which works with tools and techniques developed by some of the key leaders in the field of KM and intellectual capital."

My Consulting Style
"I never make assumptions before I meet with clients. I use my initial time with clients to listen rather than advise. I try to get a feel for the client and their organisation - little things count, and I try to relate what clients tell me with what I see and feel. I act with humility and value every encounter with people in a client organisation at whatever level. I am keen to pick up diverse views as early as possible and value input from all people in the organisation. I always try to be client-centred and put myself 'in their shoes' and to see things from their perspective."

This technology icon turned me into an entrepreneur!
Background
John Curran was born in Dublin in 1959 exactly two hundred years after Arthur Guinness began brewing his special black beer. After schooling in Dublin and Oxford he joined the Royal Navy and graduated from Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth in 1979. In 1982 he graduated from The University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology and after a brief spell at sea left the Royal Navy to take up a position with Racal Electronics. After a number of roles with Racal, in 1987 he bought one of the original Apple Macs and set-up his own marketing communications and technical authoring company. With a partner in 1989 he formed Hightext, a new business specialising in the development of user guides and online help systems. Since then he has run a variety of internet and new media companies and worked as an associate consultant with The International Consulting Group. He started e-konsult In 1999.

My Work/Life Balance
I'm a firm believer in a healthy work/life balance, not least because I'm a single parent with a teenage son.

FieldWork
I also have a strong creative streak and enjoy photography and art - especially modern art. My latest interest is for Lomography - a different kind of photography which forces you to break away from the conventional camera eye view of the world. I am currently working on some ideas to incorporate Lomography into aspects of my consulting work as a change influencing tool.

I also enjoy 'the great outdoors' and spend time on the water (sailing or kayaking) or in the mountains whenever I can. In September 2001 I climbed Kilimanjaro as part of a 50 strong team raising money for the children's charity Whizz-Kidz.
